Defective Controller. July 23, 2010 Michael G Scott (PA) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
The controller broke a week after I bought this system. This is unacceptable. At 60 bucks a pop, consumers should not have to be replacing a controller only after a week's use. Amazon would not replace just the controller and would only send an entirely new bundle. I was more than happy to send back the defective controller, but they insisted on sending a brand new PS3. I would recommend buying a separate controller as well because I have read about many people having defective controllers. Be prepared to hand over 60 bucks for a new controller at some point. As someone who buys loyally from Amazon, I'm surprised they would not replace the controller. I will certainly think twice next time about where I make my gaming purchases.
Great gaming console/media center but not without some negatives. Still a 9 out of 10 though! July 23, 2010 BAH (Long Island, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First and far most, I finally decided to get the newest PS3 version to play great video games. A couple years ago with the high PS3 price and less great selection of games, I wouldn't think about getting PS3 yet. However now is a great time to get the latest version PS3 for the price, durability, more energy efficient (less heat should mean less chance of failure) and the great selection of video games out now. Here are just some of the great positives for the the newest PS3. 1. First time I used it, I was very happy to notice that it is so quiet. No loud fan or noise! I heard some older PS3 sounded too loud. This PS3 is good for watching movies without hearing noise in background. 2. My main reason to get PS3 was great selection of games such as Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption and the list goes on and on. And the prices for games are becoming very reasonable now. You don't have to pay $59.99. 3. It really is a great blu-ray and dvd player. It makes my regular DVDs look amazing. This is a big reason to get PS3 for its dvd and blu-ray capabilities. I will be buying a blu-ray remote though just for convenience. 4. It has built-in wifi, the internet and playstation network for free. 5. Put movies, pictures and videos on it but I really didn't even try that. 6. Stream netflix movies on it. Sure the netflix streaming selection is pretty bad but once in a while you can find some good movie on it. It is nice to have. Now, I will talk about the negatives. 1. I thought the internet would be better but the browser is set up weird with no website address on top (really?), slower and lot of sites have trouble showing up i guess to adobe flash as I tried to watch videos and the flash doesn't support this device. And because I don't like the internet on PS3 much, I won't waste money on a PS3 keyboard so I am stuck typing with a PS3 controller. Yes, it is annoying and difficult to type fast on a PS3 controller. Part of the reason why I can't even see myself having any decent conversation on Playstation Home. The Playstation Home simply isn't for me anyways but maybe it is for some other people. I would love to see the PS3 fix their browser to make it somewhat like a regular computer. I think the playstation store is nice to have but too expensive and small selection of movies. I will use the internet browser once in a while but don't think PS3 will replace your use of a laptop or pc. I still think internet as a "bonus" of the PS3 as I didn't get the PS3 because of the internet feature. I really got it for the great video games!

I've held out long enough for this generation of consoles. Like many "gamers" I'm just sick of having to upgrade my console every few years so I played my xbox1 as long as I could. I was given a wii as a gift last year and found it to be a fun social game system but I grew up on nintendo and sega genesis. I needed a new fix: enter ps3. WOW. When I saw the previews for Uncharted 2 and GOW I was pretty sure this was the next gen ticket. Now if we make our next gen purchase based on the history of the consoles and companies that brought them to us, it should be well documented that Sony has a much better track record than the competition. The xbox1 was abandoned the second the 360 was announced. Meanwhile the ps2 still has some support years after its peak. I can't forgive M$ for that. Sorry you don't get my money. Whose laughing now. After all the recalls and constant upgrades to hardware it is clear that Microsoft is scrambling for public interest in their consoles and desperately trying to mask the fact that they continuously release inferior products with shoddy production year after year. When the next xbox comes out and they finally put the last nail in the 360's coffin all of their supporters are going to be really disappointed. Meanwhile Sony will continue to outclass their competition by supporting their consoles and providing a long healthy lifespan for their customers to enjoy.:)
The future begins here July 21, 2010 Tom de Castro 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Playstation 3 started as a HUGE and a power waster console, so when i looked at playstation 3 in the past, i just can't imagine myself having it in my house, but now, Sony scored one by making it slimmer and as much as i know, quieter. This console is not blu-ray exclusive, it also reads DVD and CD-ROM. The only things i complain about playstation 3 slim is the lack of retrocompatibility with Playstation 2 games, and no included Ethernet cable, but anyway those are minor things that a new gamer won't notice. I strongly recommend to get an HDMI cable with the playstation 3, because the quality of image is amazing with an HDMI cable, you can find good quality HDMI cables under 5$ here at amazon.
Works Great in Iraq... July 18, 2010 SAUL ESPINOZA (El Paso, TX, US) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this system because I was deployed to Iraq again... I figured no need to bring out my classic 60GB PS3 out here to this desert... When it arrived it was packaged neatly and no problems to the outside of the box, shipping overseas to us is notorious for being rough on the handling.
But enough of that here is my point:
* I bought this model because it was cheap and wanted a PS3 in Iraq, it works with the 220V system they got over here and it NEVER over heats on me. Temperatures here have reached over 130 degrees sometimes, and my PS3 never seems to have a problem. It's even used when I am working by my other buddies who are off work, and it still does not over heat.
* Nice and quiet and plays my games and Iraqi DVD's real well.
* No chance to go online and try any of the web capabilities this system offers but so far it has been able to well handle the dirt/dust and heat over here real well.
Like I said this is my 2nd PS3 system and BOTH of them have worked great for me. I use compressed air on them at least 1x week and that is as much maintenance as I do for these things. It works great and it is a real tough little piece of equipment. When people say this is cheap and poorly made I beg to differ. It handles the dirt, dust and HEAT from Iraq and everyone in my platoon enjoys playing it. It is a great system for a good price, I am actually thinking of keeping it when I go back to the States. I highly recommend this, and so does America !!! ha ha JK, but it really is a great system...
PoGo....
