 It simply does not work August 31, 2010

A call to their tech support resulted in a ridiculous letter back to me, telling me to check to make sure I plugged the cables correctly... I actually bought two of these units, one for me and one for my wife. Neither one produced a picture, in two separate sets we tried. I tried with Iphone 3GS and Iphone 4. You can hear the sound, but no picture shows, at all. Pity, because the idea is great. Now I have to figure out how to return them, because Amazon refers me to the sellers, they would not take responsibility for the refund, which is quite disappointing. Before buying anything else in Amazon, I will make sure they take 'personal' responsibility to issue a refund and accept a return directly. One of the sellers says straight out that they take a 15% off for 'restocking feel', regardless of the reason for the return. Adding the shipping costs, both ways, this reduces my refund to almost nothing.

I am quite pleased with this iPod base. For the price, it is an excellent value and works as you would expect.
I was a bit apprehensive as other reviews on Amazon were negative. I purchased anyway and was pleased with the item. I found it to be well made, well packaged, and even includes a spare battery for the remote (coin style battery about the size of a quarter) and nice velcro wire ties for the cables. The video output connector on the base is a mini HDMI which could connect to a TV via HDMI if you purchased the appropriate cable. The included cable breaks the mini HDMI out to component video, which was what I wanted anyway.
I tested it with an iPhone 3GS and also with an iPod Touch - both worked nicely. With armor on them, neither device would fit into any of the 8 provided inserts, but this is true of other iPod accessories I have owned. I just use it with none of the inserts and it is stable enough to not be a problem. As you would hope, iPod/iPhone devices charge their batteries when in the base.
The video playback quality is of course only as good as the source data on the ipod, but the base certainly allows them to play nicely on the TV. Audio outputs work as expected. Base is solid and heavy and overall it seems to be of good construction. For under $80, I think the DEXIM DRA022 AV is a good value!

I am very happy with this Ipod dock. I am using it for my Ipod Touch 3rd generation, and it works great. I would give it 5 stars if the remote were a bit more advanced than it is.

The video quality of this AV dock was fine, allowing me to connect our iPod/iPhone to our TV's component inputs for watching videos on the bigger screen. But the primary selling point of this product - the remote - was completely unpredictable and unreliable. I could be standing inches away and the base would refuse to respond to the remote, yet it - ocassionally - worked when several feet away. I tried several new batteries hoping for a simple fix but that had no appreciable effect.
Had it worked, this Dexim dock would've been a more economical approach than buying Apple's separate cable and dock products, but this failed miserably and the Apple dock's remote works flawlessly every time on our 1st gen, iPod Touch and iPhone 3GS.

Tried it on my iPhone 3GS and couldn't get a picture or sound on my TV at all. Don't know if it is defective or just incompatible. The description says it is. Had to send it back. Amazon was out of stock so they sent my money back.
